Giuliani Slams Trump-Era DOJ Over FBI Appointee: “It Better Be a Damn Good Reason”
In a revealing and emotional interview with Eric Bolling on The Balance, former New York City Mayor and longtime Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani made waves by publicly criticizing key personnel moves within the Trump-era Department of Justice and FBI. The segment marked a rare moment of frustration from a man often seen as a rock-solid MAGA loyalist.
Giuliani expressed deep concern over the recent appointment of Steven Jensen to lead the FBI’s powerful Washington Field Office—a move confirmed by multiple federal sources and effectively acknowledged by the official FBI X account under Director Kash Patel. What has many in the America First movement up in arms is Jensen’s record: he played a central role in the FBI’s aggressive domestic terrorism crackdown following the January 6 Capitol protest.
According to whistleblower Kyle Seraphin, a former FBI agent and member of “The Suspendables,” Jensen was the Section Chief of the Domestic Terrorism Operations Section and reportedly conducted daily calls with law enforcement across the country warning of an ongoing “attack” from so-called J6ers. A former FBI National Security Intelligence Supervisor claimed Jensen was “fixated” on January 6, calling his rhetoric breathless and alarmist.
Giuliani didn’t hold back. “I tried to reach [Kash Patel and Pam Bondi] today, and they didn’t call me back,” he told Bolling. “They say there’s an explanation for it. It better be damn good.”
The appointment has blindsided many J6 defendants and their families, who viewed Jensen as a central figure in what they describe as politically motivated persecution. Giuliani acknowledged that he’s received “hundreds of calls” from January 6 defendants concerned about the move.
“To take one of the people who was running the unit going after Catholics in the Justice Department—and also going after J6 people—and put them in charge of the Washington office of the FBI? I don’t know. Maybe he was a whistleblower. I don’t know. I have to see.”
While Giuliani remained supportive of the Trump administration overall, especially the DOJ under Attorney General Pam Bondi, he was clear: this move raised serious red flags. “Up until now, I was over-the-top enthusiastic,” he said. “Wow—Justice Department did a great job.”

Giuliani’s message was unmistakable: the MAGA base demands answers, and any appointment tied to the political targeting of Trump supporters is going to be met with scrutiny—even if it comes from inside the house.
