Leave it to Kid Rock to turn a routine military training flight into a headline that somehow manages to involve helicopters, politics, and a jab at California leadership all at once. The rocker posted a video showing what appeared to be AH-64 Apache helicopters hovering near his Nashville-area property, and now the Army is officially looking into what exactly happened.
According to officials at Fort Campbell, an investigation is underway to review the circumstances surrounding the flight. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything improper happened, but when military aircraft appear to linger near a private residence, especially one owned by a high-profile figure, it tends to raise eyebrows.
Kid Rock, unsurprisingly, isn’t sweating it. In fact, he seems amused by the whole thing. He told a local outlet that pilots train in the area regularly and that he often acknowledges them when they pass by. This time, though, they didn’t just pass by, they hovered, which is not exactly subtle when you’re talking about attack helicopters.
In the video, one of the helicopters appears to pause near a pool on the property, complete with a life-sized Statue of Liberty. Because of course it does. Kid Rock pumped his fist, clearly enjoying the moment, and then took things a step further by using the clip to take a swipe at Gavin Newsom. Subtlety has never really been his thing.
This is a level of respect that shit for brains Governor of California will never know. God Bless America and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend her. 🇺🇸 🙏 pic.twitter.com/iD5mmkaXv1

The Army, for its part, is keeping things professional and measured. A spokesperson emphasized that the helicopters were conducting training in the Nashville area and that there are strict standards governing how those operations are carried out. Translation, they’re not supposed to be doing flybys for celebrity shoutouts.
Officials also pushed back on speculation that the flight had anything to do with local political events, including a protest that took place in downtown Nashville the same day. According to the Army, any overlap was purely coincidental. That’s probably true, but when you’ve got a celebrity known for his outspoken support of President Trump posting videos like this, people are going to connect dots whether they exist or not.
And that support is no secret. Kid Rock has been one of President Trump’s most visible celebrity allies, even performing at the 2024 Republican National Convention. So when he jokes that his “buddy is commander in chief,” it’s not exactly out of character.
At the end of the day, this is likely to turn out to be a training flight that got a little too close for comfort, or at least for protocol. Still, it’s a reminder that even routine military operations can become political flashpoints when they intersect with celebrity and social media.
And in this case, it also shows that if you’re going to post helicopters hovering over your backyard, don’t be surprised when someone in uniform starts asking questions.
