Alright folks, buckle up because this is quite the rollercoaster. Tyler Jay Boebert, the eldest son of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), is making headlines and not in a good way. He was recently arrested in connection to a string of property thefts and vehicle trespasses. The charges? Not one or two, but four felony counts of Criminal Possession ID Documents – Multiple Victims, one felony count of Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and over 15 additional misdemeanor and petty offenses. Phew, that’s quite the rap sheet for an 18-year-old, isn’t it?
Now before you go all judge, jury, and executioner on the young man, let’s remember one thing: he’s still innocent until proven guilty. Remember that whole “due process” thing we have in America? Yeah, it applies here too. But boy oh boy, if these charges stick, he’s going to need a really good lawyer.
Lauren Boebert, his mom and our favorite firebrand congresswoman, released a statement saying, “I love my son Tyler, who has been through some very difficult, public challenges for a young man and the subject of attention that he didn’t ask for.” She added, “It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and, in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track.” Now that’s a momma bear defending her cub if I ever saw one.
Boebert further stated, “As an adult and father, Tyler will take responsibility for his actions and should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen.” She’s right. If Tyler did commit these crimes, he should face the consequences, just like any other citizen would. No special treatment, no exceptions. That’s the American way.
And in a surprising turn of events, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) came to Boebert’s defense. He called for restraint, stating, “This is a family in crisis and the recreational cruelty I see on social media needs to be out of bounds.” He’s got a point. This is a tough time for the Boebert family, and the last thing they need is the Twitter mob piling on.
Let’s remember to keep our pitchforks at bay until the facts are out. And let’s also remember that everyone, even the son of a controversial congresswoman, deserves a fair shake in the court of law.
