Paul Sperry and Rep. Adam Schiff have been involved in a bitter rivalry for some time now, with the journalist repeatedly uncovering information that the Congressman would obviously prefer to keep hidden. In his writing for Real Clear Investigations, Sperry has managed to identify the anonymous “whistleblower” from President Trump’s initial impeachment proceedings as Eric Ciaramella, a Democrat who worked in the Obama White House before being held over by the 45th President.
Moreover, Sperry also revealed that Ciaramella had prior connections with one of Schiff’s top officials on his committee, Sean Misko.
The revelations even caused The New York Times to call out Schiff for lying about having never talked to the whistleblower before filing his complaint against President Trump, Patrick Boland who was a spokesperson for Schiff and was forced to admit that one of his staff members had indeed met with Ciaramella. This naturally resulted in suspicions that Schiff’s office may have been involved in helping shape the content of the complaint, making this a highly partisan situation.
In response to these disclosures, Schiff put pressure on Twitter to remove any content related to him or his office from their platform. Paul Sperry pointed out that these requests were framed as concerns about possible links between them and ‘QAnon conspiracies’ which he insisted wasn’t true. Furthermore, Boland contacted Sperry’s employers at Real Clear Investigations and made claims that the journalist’s articles could lead to “actual violence”, an accusation which Sperry views as an attempt by Schiff’s office to use events such as those of January 6th as pretexts for silencing free speech. With this in mind, it appears that Sperry is now considering legal options against Schiff and his team.
Sperry even alleges via Twitter that Schiff violated his oath:
This is the oath @AdamSchiff violated:
“I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution [incl the First Amendment]; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion”
