Surely, we all know about the incident of Elon Musk issuing a sudden ban on the Twitter account of Jack Sweeney, who had been tracking the movements of his private jet by sharing a link to an aviation tracking website. This came shortly after the implementation of a new rule on the social media platform that deemed it unacceptable for users to dox Musk’s location.
However, that decision was overturned as Musk took to Twitter to ask users if he should reinstate the account, which he did so. This shift in stance hasn’t gone unnoticed by prominent leftist pundit and Fox News contributor, Jessica Tarlov. She expressed her disapproval at Musk’s style of governance over Twitter and called out conservatives who had praised his act of lifting Sweeney’s suspension as hypocrites after previously being up in arms about preserving their First Amendment rights.
Tarlov was further incensed when Musk became upset with an unhinged stalker who had followed the car that his 2-year-old son was in and climbed onto its hood. Despite video evidence provided by the driver as well as details obtained of the stalker’s car and license plate number, she asserted her doubt on whether the incident had even occurred due to information from sources claiming that no report was filed with the LAPD
She added that although conservatives praised Musk for restoring Sweeney’s access to the site, they ought to be “up in arms” about similar suspensions meted out for innocuous tweets about other people under the vagueness of newly implemented policies. Adding further insult to injury, Tarlov referred to these same conservatives laughing at her remarks as hypocritical given that prior to Musk’s leadership “Twitter Files 6” revealed how even jokes about voting were banned by trust and safety officials with help from FBI personnel.
In conclusion, it is clear that Tarlov is not happy with what she perceives as a lack of consistency in upholding free speech policies on Twitter under Elon Musk’s tenure – especially when it comes down to those who are critical towards him versus those whom he may favorably view.
