In a stunning display of political ignorance, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) stumbled through a disastrous interview on CNN, leaving viewers questioning her understanding of basic geopolitical terms and concepts. This embarrassing spectacle unfolded when host Abby Phillip questioned AOC about her stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
During the interview, AOC struggled to answer a straightforward question about what Israel should do in response to Hamas’ brutal attacks. She had previously signed a letter alongside other radical leftist Democrats, demanding that Israel enter a ceasefire after being mercilessly attacked by Hamas in early October.
Phillip put AOC on the spot, asking, “What is Israel supposed to do about Hamas after they murdered, brutalized, abducted over a thousand of their citizens? Are they supposed to just do nothing?”
Caught off guard, AOC suggested that both Israel and Hamas should stand down, conveniently ignoring the fact that it was Hamas who initiated the conflict by launching thousands of rockets into Israel. “What is important is for us to identify our goal in terms of what safety means, in terms of what defense means,” Ocasio-Cortez claimed.
When pressed further by Phillip about Israel’s right to respond to an unprovoked attack, AOC faltered, resorting to Hamas talking points about “collective punishment” rather than acknowledging Israel’s right to defend itself against an enemy government that openly attacked it.
She even criticized Israel’s blockade on water, food, and electricity to Hamas, failing to recognize that Israel is under no obligation to provide these resources to an aggressor government. AOC also cited the use of white phosphorus, an anti-personnel weapon, as inappropriate for “self-defense.”
Throughout the interview, AOC repeatedly dodged the core question: how should Israel deal with Hamas? Instead of providing a clear answer, she vaguely suggested that the Biden administration should take the lead, despite the fact that Biden has already publicly “warned” Israel against a ground campaign.
This disastrous interview is yet another example of AOC’s lack of understanding and competency in handling complex geopolitical issues. It’s clear that her radical leftist agenda and pre-assigned talking points are no substitute for a solid grasp of international relations and diplomacy.
