Well, isn’t this a fine kettle of fish? The bid to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has gone belly up. And guess what? It’s all thanks to three Republicans who decided to join the Democrats in voting “no.” So, let’s get into the nitty-gritty. These articles of impeachment against Mayorkas were introduced by House Republicans, and for a good reason, mind you. They’re not too happy with how he’s handling the southern border situation. But when it came time to put their money where their mouth is and vote on the measure, it fell flat on its face.
Who are these three rogue Republicans, you ask? Let’s roll out the red carpet for Reps. Ken Buck (R-CO), Mike Gallagher (R-WI), and Tim McClintock (R-CA). These fine gentlemen decided to dance with the Democrats and voted “no.” And if that wasn’t enough of a shocker, Rep. Blake Moore (R-UT) also flipped his vote to “no” at the last minute. According to conservative journalist Greg Price, Moore didn’t flip because he opposes the measure. Oh no, they plan to revisit the motion at a later date. Talk about keeping us on our toes!
As for Rep. Buck, well, he’s already packing up his office because he’ll be retiring at the end of his term. And he’s made it pretty clear that there’s no way his mind can be changed. He’s worried about setting a dangerous precedent. He said, “if we start going down this path of impeachment with a cabinet official, we are opening a door as Republicans that we don’t want to open. The next president who is a Republican will face the same scrutiny from Democrats. It’s wrong and we should not set this precedent,”.
The impeachment bid against Mayorkas has stumbled and fallen flat on its face. But remember, this is politics. Anything can happen. And with the Republicans planning to revisit the motion at a later date, who knows what the future holds.
