A major union boss just gave Joe Biden some of the worst news that he could receive. Shawn Fain, a key player in the United Auto Workers (UAW), recently appeared on Fox News and openly critiqued Joe Biden’s aggressive push for electric vehicles (EVs). Now, don’t get me wrong, Fain isn’t some environmental Grinch. He acknowledges the importance of environmental sustainability – a value deeply ingrained in the UAW’s history. But, and it’s a big but, he’s got some real concerns about the rapid transition to EVs.
“We have to have an environment we can all live in where we can breathe clean air and have clean water,” Fain said. However, he also stressed the need to ensure any shift includes “good wages, good benefits” so workers can live off their jobs. You know, basic stuff like being able to put food on the table and pay the rent, or is that too much to ask these days?
But the real jaw-dropper came when Fain started talking politics. He candidly acknowledged a shift in union member support away from the Democratic Party, traditionally allied with labor unions. “Look, let me be clear about this: a great majority of our members will not vote for Biden. Uh… yes, some will, uh… but that’s the reality of this,” Fain said.
Hold up, did I hear that right? The majority of UAW members, who historically lean Democrat, might favor Trump in the 2024 election? That’s not just a plot twist, that’s an entire season finale cliffhanger!
Fain’s comments really highlight the growing disconnect between traditional democratic supporters and the current administration. It’s clear that many union members are feeling left behind by the rapid shift towards green energy without a clear plan for their livelihoods.
This isn’t just about politics, this is about real people with real concerns about their future. And right now, it seems like they’re not convinced that Biden’s the one to deliver that future.
As Fain so eloquently put it: “The major majority of our members are going to vote their paychecks. They’re gonna vote for an economy that works for them, and they’re gonna vote for president.” Now, that’s some food for thought.
So, while Biden may be pushing for a greener future, he might want to remember that he’ll need the support of the working class to get there. After all, without them, who’s going to build those electric vehicles?
