Oh, the drama. Former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is shocked—shocked, I tell you!—that Democratic Party leaders turned on Joe Biden so viciously that he had no choice but to step aside in the 2024 race. Apparently, she missed the part where Biden’s own disastrous debate performance made it clear he was not up for the job. But sure, let’s pretend the real problem was the mean words from fellow Democrats.
Speaking at Harvard’s Institute of Politics, Jean-Pierre lamented the betrayal of party leaders who abandoned Biden in his hour of need. She called it a “firing squad” and said she had “never seen anything like it before.” Really? Because that’s kind of what the Democratic Party does—they eat their own when it’s politically convenient. Just ask Andrew Cuomo, Al Franken, or even Hillary Clinton after 2016. The minute someone becomes a liability, the knives come out.
Jean-Pierre painted Biden as some kind of tragic hero, calling him a “true patriot” who had supposedly accomplished more in one term than most presidents do in two. Let’s take a moment to appreciate that level of delusion. More than most presidents? The guy couldn’t even make it through a teleprompter speech without getting lost. His legacy includes record inflation, a border crisis, humiliating foreign policy failures (Afghanistan ring a bell?), and a country more divided than ever. But sure, let’s give him a participation trophy.
She also seemed to believe that instead of Democrats backstabbing their own nominee, they should have been “coming together to really be unified and trying to figure out how do we save our democracy.” That’s rich coming from the same crowd that spent four years calling Trump an existential threat to democracy while they pushed censorship, politicized the DOJ, and turned a blind eye to blatant election interference.
And let’s not forget why Biden was forced out. His June 2024 debate performance was an unmitigated disaster. He stood on that stage looking confused, stumbling over his words, and proving to the whole world that he wasn’t in control. The media tried their best to run damage control, but even CNN couldn’t spin that one. After that, the dam broke—Democrats panicked, donors pulled out, and suddenly the party had to remove Biden, even if it meant a messy public spectacle.
Jean-Pierre’s “shock” is just another example of Democrats refusing to take responsibility for their own failures. Biden wasn’t the victim of a betrayal—he was the inevitable casualty of a party that propped up an incapable leader for far too long. And now, they’re stuck picking up the pieces.
