FBI Director Christopher Wray has sounded the alarm on a shocking crisis at our Southern border. The number of illegal immigrants slipping past Border Patrol agents and disappearing into the heart of America is causing “great concern” for the agency. This astounding revelation from Wray confirms what many conservatives have been saying all along: our border security is dangerously lax under the Biden administration.
Wray testified before the House Homeland Security Committee about “worldwide threats” to our nation, revealing that over 600,000 “gotaways” – illegal immigrants who evaded Border Patrol – were recorded in Fiscal Year 23 alone. Since the beginning of the Biden administration, estimates suggest this number could be well over two million. This isn’t just an immigration issue; it’s a national security nightmare.
Chairman Mark Green posed a question that every American should be asking: can the FBI guarantee that known or suspected terrorists are not among those gotaways? Wray’s answer was anything but reassuring. He admitted that the unknown entities in the US are indeed a source of “great concern” for the agency. In fact, the FBI has noted an increase in the number of known or suspected terrorists attempting to cross the border over the last five years, with record numbers in FY 23.
What’s more, these threats aren’t confined to border states. Wray stated that they’re “consuming” all 56 FBI field offices. This is a clear indication that our border crisis is no longer just a border issue; it’s a nationwide problem that threatens the safety of every American citizen.
The surge in illegal border crossings comes amid growing concerns about potential terrorists exploiting our porous borders. Over 249,000 migrant encounters were recorded in October alone, following a record-breaking year for migrant encounters in FY 23. The Biden administration’s policies have been blamed for this border crisis by Republicans, while the administration itself insists it needs immigration reform and more funding to address a “broken” immigration system.
This alarming situation is made worse by the recent Hamas terror attack on Israel, which has renewed fears about the potential for terrorists to use our border as a gateway into the United States. Wray has previously warned that the threat of a terror attack against Americans has been raised to a “whole other level” due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Our nation’s security is at stake. We can’t afford to turn a blind eye to this crisis. The time for robust action is now. We need to secure our borders, protect our citizens, and ensure that America remains a safe and prosperous nation for all. It’s time to put America first, secure our borders, and restore law and order in our country.
