There are a slew of Democrats already lining up to potentially make a run for the White House in 2028. All of them are absolutely abhorrent. One of the latest names is the horribly failed Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz is floating the idea of a future presidential run, despite his underwhelming national debut in 2024. During an interview on The New Yorker Radio Hour, the Minnesota governor revealed that he would “certainly consider” running for president—though even he seemed unsure about his own viability.
“Look, I never had an ambition to be president or vice president. I was honored to be asked,” Walz said. He then added, “If I think I could offer something, I would certainly consider that.”
When asked directly if he would run for president, Walz responded with the classic non-answer: “Well, I had a friend tell me, ‘Never turn down a job you haven’t been offered.’”

His lack of enthusiasm was apparent throughout the interview, as he repeatedly emphasized that he wouldn’t assume he’s the right person for the job. “I certainly wouldn’t be arrogant enough to think that it needs to be me,” he admitted. “But I worry about people who have ambition for elected office.”
Walz was plucked from relative obscurity in 2024 when Kamala Harris selected him as her running mate, reportedly because he had no presidential ambitions of his own. Harris, needing a safe choice who wouldn’t overshadow her, chose Walz for his low profile and lack of national recognition—qualities that now seem to be working against him.
His vice presidential campaign failed to generate excitement, and many within his own party remain unimpressed. Former Democratic strategist Dan Turrentin dismissed the idea of Walz running for president, saying: “I think, just my own opinion, he’d be terrible. I mean, what he showed on the campaign trail was that he was kind of weak.”

Despite his uninspiring performance on the national stage, Walz hinted that a 2028 run could be in the cards. “If the conditions align and I have the right skill set for the time, I’ll do it,” he said.
The real question is: Does anyone actually want Walz to run? His tenure as Minnesota governor has been largely unremarkable, and his vice presidential bid failed to energize voters. If the Democratic Party is looking for a dynamic leader in 2028, Walz doesn’t appear to fit the bill.
For now, he’s leaving the door open—but if the reaction from his own party is any indication, that door may already be closed.
