The New York Times recently published a piece called “Republicans Pounce”, which attempted to paint the news about Hunter Biden’s laptop as the GOP using it to question and target the Biden family. The article suggested that while the DOJ is looking into possible crimes committed by Hunter, they are far removed from what Republicans have been claiming.
Furthermore, the NYT described congressional hearings on the matter as “hostile” and statements such as “the way Republicans tell it Joe Biden has been complicit in a long-running scheme to profit from his position in public life through shady dealings around the world engineered by his son, Hunter Biden” were used.
These claims raise an important question: is the liberal media going too far in their attempt to sanitize this story? The answer appears to be yes. For starters, implying that we should just take Joe Biden’s word for it and move on is concerningly nonchalant for a topic of such magnitude. Additionally, when discussing Hunter’s behaviors after his brother Beau passed away in 2015, the NYT simply stated that he descended into addiction and “tawdry and self-destructive behavior”.
While this may be true, describing Hunter’s actions with such simplicity does not accurately reflect what likely occurred. Given that he made millions through foreign connections using his father’s position as leverage, it isn’t far fetched to assume that more than just “self-destructive behavior” was at play here. Saying he simply fell into addiction serves as a coverup for questionable activities occurring outside of that scope of influence.
This raises another larger point. If we continue to allow outlets like The New York Times to gloss over stories like this one without challenging them further, then what hope do we have at getting any closer to understanding the full truth? We must put pressure on media sources such as these if we truly want justice served in any case, especially ones involving political corruption or fraudulence.
