There is a lot of talk about who the front runner is in the “too early to matter” polls between President Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. We all know that these are the two guys who are going to garner the most support leading up to the election.
According to a new poll conducted by Morning Consult, former President Trump leads current Florida Governor Ron DeSantis by a significant margin in a hypothetical 2024 Republican primary matchup. The poll found that 49 percent of potential GOP primary voters support Trump, while 31 percent support DeSantis. No other potential challenger received more than ten percent of the vote.
This latest poll is just the latest indication of Trump’s enduring popularity among Republican voters. Despite facing widespread criticism for Democrats claim his role was in the January 6th Capitol incident and subsequent impeachment, Trump continues to hold significant sway within the Republican Party. Now that we know that he is officially running for office again in 2024, he appears to be the clear frontrunner among potential candidates.

DeSantis, who has been floated as a potential 2024 contender, has a strong base of support within the party as well. In the event that he does not run, 37 percent of his supporters say that they would back Trump as their second choice, while 15 percent would support former Vice President Mike Pence in the case that DeSantis decides not to run.
Looking ahead to the general election, Morning Consult also surveyed registered voters regarding potential matchups between various Republican nominees and President Joe Biden. A rematch between Trump and Biden found that 43 percent of respondents would support Biden, while 41 percent would support Trump. Both DeSantis and Biden received 42 percent of the vote in a hypothetical matchup.

It’s worth noting that it is still very early in the election cycle, and a lot can change between now and 2024. However, these latest poll numbers suggest that Trump and DeSantis are currently the two most popular choices among Republican voters, and it will be interesting to see how the race for the nomination shapes up in the coming years.
