Well, folks, it seems like the Biden family is back in the headlines once again. This time, it’s not President Joe Biden, but his son, Hunter Biden, who’s taking center stage.
Now, we all know Hunter has had his fair share of controversies — from questionable foreign business dealings to a laptop full of incriminating evidence. But this time, he’s facing something a little more serious than bad press. We’re talking about a hefty list of felony charges, which according to CNN, includes nine counts of failure to file and pay taxes, evasion of assessment, and filing false or fraudulent tax returns.
The charges stem from a federal investigation into his taxes, led by Special Counsel David Weiss. Apparently, Hunter’s been living it up with an income of over $7 million during 2016 to 2019, which included money he received from Burisma, CEFC China Energy, and others. And what did he do with all that cash? Well, let’s just say Uncle Sam didn’t see a dime of it.
Court documents reveal that Hunter “willfully failed” to pay at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for those years. Instead, he allegedly spent his earnings on “drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other items of a personal nature.” In layman’s terms, everything but his taxes.
But that’s not all, folks. Remember when Hunter was indicted on federal gun charges back in September? That came after he and his legal team failed to strike a plea deal. The agreement fell apart after U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika questioned the limits of Hunter’s immunity under the deal. He was charged with three crimes related to false statements made on a federal application to purchase a firearm. You see, back in October 2018, Hunter claimed he was clean of drugs to purchase a handgun, but later admitted in his memoir that he was addicted to crack cocaine at the time.
Now, I’m no legal expert, but it seems to me like Hunter’s been playing fast and loose with the law for quite some time. But hey, who am I to judge? After all, it’s not like he’s the son of the President of the United States or anything. Oh, wait…
