The Biden regime recently authorized the U.S. Forest Service to launch an aerial slaughter of approximately 150 “unauthorized” cattle from helicopters over the Gila Wilderness in southwestern New Mexico. Despite objections from ranchers that this cruel culling violated federal regulations and amounted to animal cruelty, a federal judge ruled that it would be in the public interest to proceed with the operation, which commenced on Thursday and will continue through Sunday.
However, groups such as R-CALF USA, New Mexico Cattle Growers Association and Humane Farming Association dispute the government’s characterization of the cattle as “feral” and point out that they may actually be descendants of herds that legally grazed on rancher-owned allotments decades ago. Furthermore, they allege that it is possible that estrays have intermingled with adjacent allotment owners’ branded and tagged cattle – evidence that these are indeed domestic livestock. It is also being suggested that pressure from environmental groups may have been a factor in influencing the Forest Service’s decision to employ helicopter hunters for this purpose.
Adding an additional layer of injustice to this situation is the fact that much of the fencing near where these aircraft will operate was destroyed by a fire last year – leaving calves motherless and mature cattle with injuries that caused prolonged suffering before their inevitable death. As a result, carcasses can be found strewn about the land and in waterways throughout the area.
Unfortunately, U.S. taxpayer money has been allocated for funding this animal cruelty which has largely gone unopposed by major “animal welfare” groups such as PETA, who have yet to make any statement on this matter.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m no animal activist, but there seems to be something that just isn’t right with all of this. I’ve heard of hunting hogs from helicopter, but hunting cows is just like shooting fish in a barrel.
