Well, Elizabeth Warren is back with another gem — this time throwing her weight behind a radical New York City proposal that reads like it was ripped straight from a failed Soviet policy manual. On Friday’s Squawk Box on CNBC, Warren came out in full support of NYC mayoral candidate and socialist darling Zohran Mamdani’s brilliant idea to create government-owned grocery stores.
Your future trip to pick up eggs and milk might involve waiting in line at a city-run commissary, brought to you by the same folks who can’t fix a pothole or run the DMV without total chaos. Warren defended the plan by saying, “We’ve got a problem with entire food deserts,” which, in Leftist-speak, means they want more government, more control, and less competition.

Mamdani, the 35-year-old Democratic Socialist who recently won the NYC mayoral primary, wants the city to not just regulate groceries — but run the stores themselves. Warren compared it to military base commissaries, as if comparing tightly controlled military installations to a city of nine million people is a rational argument.
And this isn’t just some fringe policy. Warren, a U.S. Senator and former presidential candidate, is openly cheerleading what amounts to grocery socialism. “I want to try things to make it work for working families,” she said, praising Mamdani’s willingness to experiment. Yes, because what working families really need is the same people who brought you $4.5 billion subway turnstile upgrades managing your produce aisle.
Of course, she also glossed over the historical reality that state-run grocery stores have failed miserably everywhere they’ve been tried. From the Soviet Union to Venezuela, the model leads to shortages, corruption, and lines around the block for bread — not exactly “progress.”
But Mamdani’s utopian vision doesn’t stop there. As a New York State Assemblyman, he’s called for defunding the NYPD, claiming the department exists to “control black, brown and poor New Yorkers.” He says police are complicit in a “violent, right-wing government,” and believes gutting law enforcement is essential to “queer liberation.”
So yes, the guy who wants to dismantle public safety also wants to put the government in charge of your groceries. And Elizabeth Warren’s all for it.
Let’s be honest — this isn’t a plan for progress. It’s a slow-motion collapse of common sense. If Mamdani gets his way, New York won’t need to import groceries — it’ll be importing disaster.
