The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has released body-cam footage showing the arrest of Ryan Wesley Routh, a 58-year-old Democrat donor accused of trying to assassinate President Trump. That makes two in just a couple of months. Unbelievable, right?
The footage shows a tense but controlled arrest, with deputies cautiously instructing Routh to back up with his hands on his head. Thankfully, he followed orders, and they arrested him without any drama. Routh’s facing some serious federal charges: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a gun with an obstructed serial number. It’s pretty obvious that he was trying to hide where the weapon came from.

Allegedly, Routh targeted Trump while he was playing a round of golf. Secret Service agents fired at a man lurking in the bushes near the course, and Routh was nabbed on a nearby highway. He had gone from supporting Trump in 2016 to calling him an “idiot” and a “buffoon.” Classic, right? One minute they’re with you, the next they’re out there in the bushes.
Routh’s political opinions have gotten pretty radical in recent years. He’s written about everything from Ukraine to North Korea and wasn’t shy about blaming Trump for all sorts of problems. According to sources like CNN, he was especially critical of Trump pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal, saying it just made Russia and Iran buddy up even more.
But Routh’s life wasn’t just political messiness—his personal life was a wreck too. His history includes past arrests and civil suits for unpaid taxes. Still, people who knew him can’t believe he’d try something like this. His own son said, “He was a loving and caring father.” Guess love doesn’t stop people from diving headfirst into dangerous politics these days.
Through it all, Trump came out unharmed and, as you’d expect, didn’t waste any time pointing fingers. In classic Trump fashion, he said that remarks from Joe Biden and Kamala Harris labeling him a “threat to democracy” basically encouraged the attempt on his life. Trump didn’t mince words, either, tweeting, “The Rhetoric, Lies, as exemplified by the false statements made by Comrade Kamala Harris during the rigged and highly partisan ABC Debate, and all of the ridiculous lawsuits specifically designed to inflict damage on Joe’s, then Kamala’s, Political Opponent, ME, has taken politics in our Country to a whole new level of Hatred, Abuse, and Distrust.”
Classic Trump, right? Never backing down, not even for a second!
